Did you visit the Central Florida Law Enforcement Car Show last Saturday? It was bigger and better than last year, if things like that are possible. What a joy and delight to see some of those old vintage car and trucks. It does bring back memories of growing up.

Flea market

St. Stephen’s Catholic Church is hosting a huge flea market from Friday, Jan. 27, to Sunday, Jan. 29. The event will have books, jewelry, electronics, clothing, antiques, Christmas items and many more goodies. The market will be open on Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you need more information, please visit www.st-stephen.com

Glass Show

The Sanlando Depression Glass Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, at the Sanford Civic Center, 401 E. Marker dedication

The first Saturday in February is very busy, and I do mean it — you all will have to choose your activities wisely. My favorite, I am partial, would be to visit the Oviedo Historical Society’s Farmer’s Market for the dedication of the Lawton House Historical Marker on Saturday, Feb. 4. The mayor of Oviedo, Historical Society, Oviedo Rotary Club and Oviedo Woman’s Club will participate in the unveiling ceremony scheduled for 11 a.m. It will also bring attention to the farmers market. The ceremony will be simple — a few quick words and an unveiling of the marker. The Rotary and the Woman’s Club are the financial supports and donated $1,000 each. Do come shop, visit, eat and have a good time. The market hours are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Geneva bus tour

Another choice: Breakfast and a tour at the Geneva Community Center, 161 First St., Geneva, to learn about the historic community during the 12th annual Geneva Historic Bus Tour and Pancake Breakfast. The 90-minute tours leave at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. The cost is $10, and advanced registration is required. The pancake breakfast is from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and is open to the public. The cost for the breakfast is $5. Proceeds will benefit the Geneva Historical Society. Please call 407-349-9982 if you need more information.

UCF Wind Ensemble

St. Luke’s Concert Series is 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 2021 W. State Road 426, Oviedo. The University of Central Florida Wind Ensemble will present “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue.” The program features the old — Tchaikovsky, Liszt and Wagner — and the new, while borrowing from orchestral repertoire — new, and creatively arranged for Winds — and adding just a bit of blues. It’s free admission. For more information, call 407-365-3408.

Butterfly exhibit

“Butterflies are Free,” so the old saying goes. Live butterflies will be fluttering around The Oviedo Mall from Saturday, Feb. 4, through Sunday, Feb. 19. Though out the mall there will be live butterfly exhibits, photo opportunities, arts and crafts and more. Butterfly house tours cost $2, and butterfly kits will be for sale. The exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, visit their website at myoviedomall.com

Orchid Show

The Greater Orlando Orchid Society and Orlando Garden Club will host their annual Orchid Show and Sale Friday, Feb. 10, through Sunday, Feb. 12. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Orlando Garden Club, 710 E. Rollins St., Orlando. The show will include blooming orchids, foliage plants, bromeliads, books and supplies. Potting and dividing service will be available. Admission is free. A thought

“In the coldest February, as in every other month in every other year, the best thing to hold on to in this world is each other.” — Linda Ellerbee
